Black Box //Case Study

 

JDTECK was approached by Black Box Network Services (BBNS), a well known and highly respected structured cabling and networking company, to come up with a design to provide reception in the basement (20,000sq ft) for one of their VIP customers in the Washington DC area.

Working from just a floor plan, some photos, and a few video clips, JDTECK was able to create a comprehensive and competitively priced in-building solution in just a couple days and submitted it to BBNS for approval. The quote was accepted and equipment shipped out within 24 hours. JDTECK provided full technical support on the phone to the BBNS installation team through the entire process.

As is standard, the system was initially commissioned with a directional antenna. Coverage for voice service was very good. However, the 3G data was less than satisfactory. Upon investigation, we found that this problem was caused by a nearby building, which was much taller than the donor antenna.

A replacement Omni antenna was subsequently sent out that would pick up signals from all directions. The customer now benefits from improved voice and high speed data coverage at a fraction of the cost quoted by other vendors. 

Since this project, Black Box has partnered with JDTECK on several other large scale deployments for cellular in-building coverage.
