Cellular Repeaters

  • Wrong Way

It is usually best that the donor antenna of your cellular repeater kit be installed on the roof. There are several reasons for this:

  1. It allows the antenna to pick up the strongest and cleanest signal from the cell tower.
  2. It allows you free access to rotate your antenna in any direction to fine-tune the best input signal to the antenna.
  3. It helps create the isolation needed between the outdoor antenna and the indoor service antenna so you do not need to reduce the output power of your repeater to avoid signal feedback or oscillation.

Since cellular signals are vertically polarized, the exposed elements of a yagi antenna should always be perpendicular to the ground. In the case of a yagi panel antenna, this needs to be installed on its “knife edge” with the smaller tip facing the cell tower. With an Omni-directional antenna, it should be pointing straight up.

What if I don’t have access to the roof; then what?

In applications where access to the roof is not possible or extremely inconvenient, you could consider placing the donor antenna or your wireless repeater kit on a balcony, in a window at the side of a building, or in the corner of a floor in a high-rise building. You will need to let us know this when submitting your order so we can supply you the appropriate mounting bracket that will suit your application. Please keep in mind that your donor antenna cannot be too close to the indoor service antennas. This will cause signal feedback.

What does the color of the LED’s on the repeater mean?

The LED’s on the front of the repeaters will all light when the system is turned on. (Including the Alarm LED’s) If the system detects an error, either because the indoor unit is too close to the outdoor antenna or the input signal is too strong after using a pre-amp, the Alarm LED’s will change color.

The color chart is as follows:

Green: System functioning well
Orange: Slight detection of signal oscillation. (Relocate base unit or attenuate DL power)
Red: Strong detection of signal oscillation. (Power off repeater immediately, adjust dip switches, then power back on)

My Repeater works, but the coverage area is very small. Why is this?

This is an indication that the input signal coming into the donor antenna is too weak. If your outdoor reception is good (3+ Bars) and stable, then you need to check the following:

  1. Make sure all connections are tight.
  2. Double-check that the donor antenna is pointed in the best direction and is receiving the strongest input signal.
  3. Make sure that the LED’s on your cellular repeater are all green. – (If not, please adjust dip switches immediately)

Note: If, while installing the repeater system, you only then noticed that your outdoor reception on your cell phone (not connected to donor antenna) is very weak, then you may need to consider adding a pre-amp to the system. This will boost the weak input signal before it goes into the repeater. For more details on our pre-amps, please click here.

How do I know which direction to point my outdoor antenna?

Now supplied FREE! With all of our Cellular Repeaters Kits is a Universal Velcro Induction adapter that will allow you to interface your cell phone directly to the donor antenna of your wireless repeater kit, thus truly making this a DIY installation. As you rotate the donor antenna in very small increments and pause for a few seconds, the bars on your phone will indicate when you have identified the best location.

Once this has been identified, tighten the bolts on your antenna so it does not move. You will then route your coax indoors and complete the installation. Once complete, test for call quality.

My repeater has switches, what are these for?

The dip switches located either on top or at the front of your cellular repeater, depending on the model you have, are used to fine-tune the repeater to its environment. With the dip switches in the OFF position, your repeater is operating at full power. As you throw the switches to the ON position, you start to attenuate (reduce) the output power of the unit which is done in increments. Each switch represents a specific reduction value measured in decibels.

Your repeater will let you know when these switches need adjusting by the color-changing alarm LED’s. All of JDTECK’s repeaters are designed with very robust monitoring software. It is now up to the end user to observe what the repeater is trying to say and adjust the settings accordingly.

Signal Boosters

How does your Booster Kit connect to my device?

A 3 ft. signal lead is supplied with each booster at no extra cost. One end of this signal lead connects to the “phone end” of the JDTECK Booster, and the other end connects to what is called a phone adapter or RF adapter, depending on the device you need to provide enhanced service to. (Sold Separately).
